i guess i should write a blog about how to properly handle moderating an instance.
because i see a lot of admins who just accept dzuk's blocklist as gospel (which they themselves explicitly say not to do!) or the suggestion of random threads as gospel, without actually verifying the information being provided.
admins who are considering making moderation decisions are obligated to properly investigate: things like published blocklists or threads are simply data points, and the final responsibility of making moderation decisions still lies with the admin.
for example, someone just said that mobile.co and honey.church should be blocked for the same reason.
but the rationale for an admin to block either one is wildly different -- one is an alt-right instance and one is an LGBT instance that does not accept specific views about the LGBTQIA+ vs MOGAI issue. regardless of how you feel about either instance, those are completely different concerns!
(incidentally, if you want to know the situation on those instances here, we remove mobile.co from shared timelines for now, and are leaving honey.church alone until we see reason to do otherwise)
