The 200k milestone for Mastodon users is worth noting, but let's consider that due to the distributed nature of this I could have an account on multiple instances. I'm more curious how many active users there are.

The distributed nature of Mastodon is the reason NOT to make accounts on multiple instances. Why would I make an account in another instance when I can already talk to those people with my current account? (Unless you want to seize "snwh" on any instance under the Sun? :joy: Why?)

@masoud the distributed nature enables it so I do suspect some people will have seized the same account name on multiple instances. My theory is more that people will have multiple accounts on multiple instances because the instances will be different "thematically", they'll become community-like or niches. There's already some for furries, for example.
