Capitalism is a very simpleminded distributed AI that knows only two things:
* the notion of 'ownership' (measured in money)
* and the notion of 'value' (also measured in money)
and has one goal: Increase value for my owners.
That's it. It won't increase the general welfare or protect ecology or even not turn people into literal slaves because *it doesn't know about those things*.
The way we teach the capitalism AI to have humane values - is with the thing called 'government regulation'.
@simpleton Indeed, which is why we the people have to take things into our own hands. There are so many wonderful movements forming, e.g. in Germany there are two potential parties forming out of civil society, plus a system of direct candidates unrelated to parties, and then you have things like civic energy production, the maker movement or the Free Software movement.
These are the sort of things that can save us, not politicians and corporations.

One thing I do enjoy about Mastodon is the expanded character limit. 500 characters seems to be the perfect amount to express a thought while preventing a full essay about a topic. It's a very nice middle ground.
