Here is a link to $500 worth of free ebooks, via the Harvard Classics. These are all in the public domain and if you read just 15 minutes a day, for one year, you can get the start of a true liberal arts education. It is troubling that the Alt-Right is trying to lay claim to the Western Great Books for their own ends. I'm with Mary Beard, who says we shouldn't let this happen.

That said. I can also understand that it can be too triggering for some people to read the Western Classics. I always feel like screaming when I read Aristotle's Politics. But, I also learn how to spot the same false arguments today.

Yes, I'm glad you brought this up. The Western classics are flawed. They are written largely by dead white men, with all the attendant biases. Which, is why, I respectfully argue that we can't let current racists run the dialogue. It is why we need to apply modern methods of inquiry with actual historiography, and include women, POC and class analysis and understand how Europe was never and is not now as 'White' as racists claim. It's also good just to 'understand the enemy.'
