What idiot called that little narc Elf on the Shelf and not Police Navidad?

Big rumblings in the expansion of the #Fediverse have been happening recently.

#Tumblr has already promised to implement #ActivityPub (the protocol Mastodon uses), which will mean you can follow Tumblr accounts from here and vice versa. And today we a learning that #Flickr is also considering it!

This will be a massive expansion bringing, which obviously carries some uncertainties, but I, for one, welcome our new federation partners.

This is the way the internet is supposed to work.

Who the hell goes to IHOP and orders Salmon? 🤢 Who hurt you?

So far there's only two things about Mastodon's design/current status that concern me.
1. I don't think it's spam prevention measures are much better than email's, and no real tooling exists. Isolating servers is a cat/mouse game.
2. Need some more server implementations that are lighter in weight. Open Source does better when there's more implementations/ports.

These are both very much fixable.

For the past 15 years the web has become walled gardens and proprietary lock-in.
Mastodon is for a generation of the internet a first glimpse of what the web is capable of when building interoperability and federation instead of walled gardens.

Looks like people are actually starting to really use Mastodon

Everyone is welcome as long as you follow our code of conduct! Thank you. Mastodon.cloud is maintained by Sujitech, LLC.
