Kind of wish Mastodon had more synth nerds. None of my music/synth posts get likes/comments/replies. All of the common synth related hashtags are either missing, or I was the last person to use them in several months. This makes me suspect Mastodon is slowly becoming an insider monoculture, due to slow/nonexistent organic adoption. Is anyone even reading this? #synth #synthesizer

This reminds me of Twitch.tv. Twitch.tv built their initial user base via providing a game streaming service. Once that demographic couldn't grow anymore, they opened it up to everyone else. Unfortunately, you need viewers to watch non-game content to attract non-game streamers, otherwise you're streaming into the void. Thus the majority of the streamers in Creative/Music are somehow game/cosplay related, because that's what the viewers interact with.
also apparently #Mastodon has a bug where it won't allow you to post a toot with 7 characters remaining...?
After streaming/recording a few live techno jams on Twitch I now get emails from them enticing me to checkout all of the other diverse facets of Twitch, which always end up being Gaming or Cosplay related...
I am now considering moving my streaming operation to YouTube, which has a larger and more diverse user base, who would be more likely to watch my streams/videos. The same argument can be made for moving off Mastodon. What good is a FOSS microblogging platform if there's no audience to engage with you?
@postmodern I guess to each their own. It is true that the population is lower here. YouTube is awful though, and so I birdsite, they are routinely bullying their users by changing the rules... good luck out there πββοΈ

@postmodern I only occasionally watch anything on twitch, but I invariably regret given the constant ads thrown at me. I mean the unskippable 30s ones. Not a streamer myself.
@serialised do you not use an adblocker? Also have you ever streamed on Twitch.tv? If so, what were your experiences?

@postmodern I don't know to be frank (not a streamer). I guess you can research it. My point was just that it is known that YouTube is bad with its users (re: monetisation, subscription bugs I.e. Subs not notified of new content...). You are not satisfied with twitch and that's fine, I wish you luck in finding a new home and above all an audience, and that you won't suffer from your new platform.
