mastodon is twitter if twitter was just people talking about installing their own twitter instance

Back when I was active on Usenet it was considered pretty normal to have house rules for any newsgroup, you were also expected to refrain from posting long enough to notice and learn the unspoken customs (this was called "lurking").

Nowadays people see it as an orchestrated attack against free speech, shout references to 1984, and threaten to move elsewhere.

Yet the ones asking us all to behave politely are called "hypersensitive"?

is it true that mastodon is actually a psyop created by hover and namecheap to spur people into paying crazy prices for hip domain names such as "balls.hypno.gongle.sigil", "godzone.fuck" and "will.i.am.shitner"

If you add courage to anything bad you can make it so people think it's a good thing.

The courage to tell him that the world is gonna roll him and to remind him subtly that he ain't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Just spent 30 minutes debugging DNS issues WHEEEEE

An alternate web interface that sizes text of a toot according to an inverse function to the post frequency of the account tooting.

Amplify the quietest voices while the loudest end up a whisper.

Someone needs to write an actual BBS that interfaces to Mastodon

Turns out the solution to both "I want twitter, but with a heavier ban hammer" and "Fuck you, I'm making my own twitter with blackjack and hookers" is exactly the same tech, just differently configured.
