So much of politics is discussed like it's a reality show, a never-ending partisan squabble, but conservatives regularly support and/or implement policies that cause enormous suffering & death among real people. It's enough to make you angry if you think about it.

"A third laid-off Google employee told Insider that a team midway through an off-site at the Chicago office discovered that two of their team members had been laid off when they were unable to badge into the office with the rest of the group."

Companies act like this to people and then folks get offended that employees don't feel like giving their employers 2-weeks notice and putting themselves at risk anymore.

Both parties have held the debt ceiling hostage as a political tool. For example, in 2011, the Republicans did it. But in 2013, the Republicans did it. On the other hand, this year it is the Republicans who are doing it.

cut only 4,000 people? cut as many as 22,000? no sir, we will stick to our narrow prescribed shareholder-pleasing, employee-dominance-asserting range

funny how all these tech companies, despite wildly varying sizes, missions, and financial pictures, are all cutting their staff from exactly 9,000 to 12,000 people each

It has been repeated many times, but the idea that cis het men would go to any bother whatsoever pretending to be trans women in order to sexually assault someone when they do so all the time already and are rarely and barely punished for it is patently absurd, and yet we are constantly forced to address this nonexistent, made-up problem by people who just want trans people to disappear and die.

One of the things I will miss most about Twitter this all-time classic tweet occasionally being re-tweeted into my timeline. It never fails to make me smile, both because it is an absolutely perfect tweet, and because it reminds me of Simon.

So perhaps we should import the tradition to Mastodon twitter.com/SimonMaloy/status/

From now on when I read or watch news pieces and pundit discussions about “the economy” I’ll think of this…

I assume that this means the murder clearance rates are 100%? No, just more uniforms on subway platforms staring at their phones?

There’s been speculation that this might be a test to see if absence of third-party #Twitter apps affects engagement. But it doesn’t matter anymore. We’re watching the developers react in real-time on a competing platform. Their trust in Twitter is gone. Their customers’ trust in Twitter is gone. And they’re more loyal to the developers than they ever were to Twitter. API usage could have been a feature of Blue. But now people are lining up to pay for #Ivory, #Mammoth, #Mona, etc.—not Twitter.
