- 50 great sites
- five programming concepts
- three #visualisations
- ideas on #social_media/#GS for teaching
- insights on how to debate in #social_media
Over the same 96 hours, similar browsing, in Facebook and Twitter, I found:
- 50 different posts about funny memes on #United Airlines
- Several hundred vanity posts and selfies
- 1 article on #cricket
- Trolls fighting with each other.
Go figure!

Prediction: In two decades, (some) people will have life expectancies in the hundreds of years, but they will still have crappy cell phones, and cable tv news will still suck.
I remember seeing a toot by someone who's been quietly running some white-hat security scripts on various M instances. This is a Big Deal, that all instances have sound sysadmin management. It's more than just keeping the M software up to date. Our trust is in the hosts' hands.

I just clicked on Home on the birdsite and 16 new tweets queued up during the time of the pageload. Ugh.
You know, in my early days on the birdsite (10y ago, yigoonie) there was much a similar atmosphere to here — well, actually more like the busier instances. I was late for an early adopter, user 1M+, but even then it was *social*. Then as it got busier I fought the tide. I unfollowed rapid tweeters. I tried to read every tweet.
Then I let go and just let the noise take over. I heard what I heard and didn't worry about what I missed.
But this reminds me of those old days. That's friggin awesome.
