I'm following 26 accounts, but Home says I'm not following anyone yet. I must be ahead of my time.
The first person to live to 1000 years old has already been born...
...OR the last person to survive this madness has already been born.
Slim chance it's the same person.
I wonder if I can enable text-to-speech and just let the Japanese wash over me.
So I'm kind of moving on from the Drupal now. Or it moved on from me, I can't tell. Wondering what's next. Hugo is looking very tempting. It's really more to tinker than anything else. Something with a clean slate for proper theming. Anyone with Hugo insights?

Yes, I am judging you.
Yes, you are failing.
No, I don't think you have any chance of success... but try anyway. It's amusing.
I can't read a stitch of the local timeline right now, but it looks like they're having fun.
I'm in tenforward.
TFW you can read more federated toots than local toots.
US: Mastodon is living proof that you don't need to monetise a service for it to be useful to others or self-sustaining.
TECH PUNDITS: Mastodon STILL has no plan for commercialisation or monetisation! Tut tut!
Just realized we're coming up on #SW40. Dang, I feel old.
Regular expressions are like magic spells. I always have to look them up in a spellbook, and the people that know how to use them by heart are wizards.
In last 96 hours on #mastodon, I found:
- 3 sci-fi I haven't read before
- 50 great sites
- five programming concepts
- three #visualisations
- ideas on #social_media/#GS for teaching
- insights on how to debate in #social_media
Over the same 96 hours, similar browsing, in Facebook and Twitter, I found:
- 50 different posts about funny memes on #United Airlines
- Several hundred vanity posts and selfies
- 1 article on #cricket
- Trolls fighting with each other.
Go figure!
#css request (ultimately a #featurerequest): Full-width flexbox so our columns fill the window. Right now 2/5 of my Chrome window is empty.
Prediction: In two decades, (some) people will have life expectancies in the hundreds of years, but they will still have crappy cell phones, and cable tv news will still suck.
I remember seeing a toot by someone who's been quietly running some white-hat security scripts on various M instances. This is a Big Deal, that all instances have sound sysadmin management. It's more than just keeping the M software up to date. Our trust is in the hosts' hands.
#Mastodon should have a new user guide that states
- Your first toot doesn't have to be the word "toot"
- You need never make a fart joke. They've all been made.
- No, you don't need an account on all instances.
- Yes, you can if you want to.
- Yes, there are apps: https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/blob/master/docs/Using-Mastodon/Apps.md
- Yes, your username across instances is username@instance.tld
- If you hate different people or opinions go back to the birdsite.
I just clicked on Home on the birdsite and 16 new tweets queued up during the time of the pageload. Ugh.
You know, in my early days on the birdsite (10y ago, yigoonie) there was much a similar atmosphere to here โ well, actually more like the busier instances. I was late for an early adopter, user 1M+, but even then it was *social*. Then as it got busier I fought the tide. I unfollowed rapid tweeters. I tried to read every tweet.
Then I let go and just let the noise take over. I heard what I heard and didn't worry about what I missed.
But this reminds me of those old days. That's friggin awesome.
