This helped me find a few hundred folks to follow that I'd missed in my migration! Pretty neat.

Also - absolutely ZERO npm dependencies. Nothing to install. VanillaJS FTW.

Well, I got my mastodon second-degree follows scraper working! It goes through a CSV of follows (downloaded from Preferences > Import and Export > Data Export > Follows) and gets all the folks those folks follow. It then sorts by frequency.

There's a warning on the gist but SERIOUSLY don't run this against a huge follows list ok? We don't want to hammer folks' servers.

I just updated my midi player on my website to be much faster and also now works on mobile devices!

(Spoiler: it's playing mp3s of the midis now instead of native midis. Sadly this was the only cross-browser way to handle it in 2022.)

@llimllib @lrhodes Fair! Personally I don't consider it antisocial to want to know who my friends follow so I can figured out who I've missed in the transition over here. 🤷‍♂️

@lrhodes Hmm. Well, I mean you *can* still do it, just in a much-more-expensive-for-the-hosts way. Negligible for us scrapers.

I was creating a script to list the people that are followed by everyone who *I* follow via the mastodon API - but since this is a decentralized service, it doesn't look like that's possible?

You need a token to query your own instance to get the folks you follow, but then to get data about the next level (2 degrees of separation) that data must first be cached on your local instance.

Is scraping web pages the only way? Seems like a poor design. Also shouldn't need a token for public data. 😖

I do a lot of design & editing so I've mostly migrated to Affinity's suite these days - but they don't yet have a catalog app.

Darktable is a free alternative catalog too, but I don't think it works with lightroom's stuff?
