I learned early on that the easiest way to research a topic was to let someone else do it for you. Find a book, look at its bibliography, and recursively etend through that. Then look through citation indices to find the most recent reference on the topic, and check it to look for anything the earlier sources might have missed. You'd, generally, get a strong overview of what other authors in the field considered important.
It was also a good sign when the same works kept appearing.

Some Japanese call Mastodon as "鱒丼",That means bowl of rice topped with trout sashimi.
It's because "鱒丼" is pronounced "masudon" and Japanese pronunciation is similar to Mastodon.
