@Laurelai @kaniini It's too late to save ActivityPub, but Zot was designed around permissions. You can give and take away permission to comment (or to do anything else) whenever you desire. If I was on Zot right now I could say "Right. You can't comment in my stream any more. It's my stream, not yours. End of discussion.". I could also say "Right. I want you to vanish." And you will. Nobody has infringed on your freedom, but you can no longer infringe on mine. People ridicule me for creating software that does this. Setting boundaries is what people do. If your software doesn't allow you to do this you need new software.

if you're new and worried about your follower numbers, don't! mastodon is more about the community and having fun with your friends. you can drop the toxic thought process where you viewed yourself as a brand on Twitter.

Use your local and federated timelines! Talk to people if something catches your eye! Don't gamify the experience here, be considerate. Think about being part of the local & federated community instead of figuring out how to go viral. Mastodon is super fun without those habits.

Some #Friendica screenshots to give an idea of what it's like to use.

It features a familiar #Facebook-style timeline in the middle, an FB-style events system, and there's also groups (sort of).

If people want to switch from Facebook, this could be a really nice alternative for them once #ActivityPub is added.

It also works as a feed reader, you can "friend" RSS addresses and they then appear in your timeline as if they were users.

There are a lot of unsung heroes out there, but today I want to thank my friend Deb Nicholson for working hard and trying to make free software a better place despite all the bullshit. We need, but perhaps do not deserve, the help of people like you. Thanks.

So, my school has agreed to EULAs for me that have clauses to sell information to Microsoft, Twitter, and affiliiates. Along with this, they've used bots to sign up Google accounts for us and passing the accounts to use after agreeing to the privacy policy in our names. They do this regularly and I recall a end-of-class test where me and 2 others read the EULA we were agreeing to with clauses to sell the information, and the teacher told us to step aside while he handles it... and he clicked 'accept' for all of us.

What can I do about this, since that doesn't sound legal given the age ranges of 14-17 in that one incident?
