Lunch today nearly destroyed me with it's deliciousness

Wow, mstdn.jp became the biggest instance!? What is happening in Japan. :flag_jp:

How does Mute work?

If I block someone, I can see them under Blocked Users and unblock them if I want. (I assume, haven't actually done that.)

But if I mute someone, is that on a timer? I don't see where I would unmute them.

For a long time I've been enamored with the RFC-led style of governance that Rust-lang uses. This github comment by Yehuda Katz is the most succinct description of how it works that I've seen in a while: github.com/yarnpkg/yarn/issues The entire thread is interesting.

Just wanna throw this out there again. Mastodon.cloud has like 17k users and only like 50 patrons. He isn't breaking even on it yet. Let's help him out yeah? Boost maybe? patreon.com/ValentinOuvrard

As someone who really loved Flash AS3, I'm not too happy with the comparison being made here. Still, I understand and agree with the fundamental idea.

So, what do y'all use?

Fairly satisfied with the ProtonVPN beta for a single client at a time, but I have concerns about bandwidth if I'm going with a DD-WRT router for my household.

I've been blocking all the japanese folks on this instance for a few reasons:

1) My mobile client I use most doesn't have the "mute" option
2) I can't read Japanese (I did take it in college, but I didn't get conversational)
3) Following the local timeline became too difficult with so many posts I can't follow flooding it.

I don't feel good about that solve. Has anyone else come up with a better way to manage multilingual timelines? Translate plugins don't work on mobile.

Free idea: A math-focused Mastodon instance that renders LaTeX formulas inline with MathJax and/or attaches your formula as an image when you post

I've written 'toot', a very simple command-line utility to allow Mastodon posts to be sent from the command-line: npmjs.com/package/toot

Today is one of those awful days where you try to do one simple thing and it needs you to do one other thing which needs yet another thing.... RAWR!!!

I was among those affected by the layoffs at Cylance, and so am now looking for work. I've been working on my OSCP, and am searching for either a junior penetration testing position, or a blue team position, in NYC or remote.

If I don't find work by the end of the month, I may be open to relocation, but for now, I'm trying to stay in the city. If you know of anyone hiring in my area that you'd recommend working for, please drop me a line here or on Twitter.

@TheAdmin congrats on the patreon funding goal!
