Nope. This is just...urgh. 🤢🤮

As someone in the replies said, "if you’re a guy going on a first date with the intention of automatic sex and not getting to know someone, you’re looking for a sex worker, not a date."

cozy in a mac rom scarf. specifically this is a slice of the ROM from a Macintosh IIsi. here's how it was made. i used @th 's script github.com/osresearch/prom/blo and the mac roms on archive dot org archive.org/details/mac_rom_ar

if you have ImageMagick already installed:

$ perl hex2png.pl -y 1280 -w 32 mac_rom_archive_-_as_of_8-19-2011/36B7FB6C\ -\ Mac\ IIsi.ROM \ | convert - maciisi.png

Then a slice four columns wide was taken of the resulting image and knit into a scarf. The scarf is 1280 pixels/knit stitches long and therefore wraps natively in the columns of the scarf. if you want to make your own, you'll need a hacked consumer knitting machine or an industrial knitting machine or someone with a setup to machine knit it for you.

That experience is why I have so much empathy for people working on open source, even those who are being paid to, because the job isn't easy, and wearing many hats is an understatement.

@wbm312 I hear you and you’re probably completely on the point with this. Given that this whole thing is a community effort it would be reasonable to think that there exists members of the community (such as yourself) with valuable knowledge that could contribute to put forward solutions to these concerns on a larger scale than single admins for instances. To me it sounds like a concern that applies to the entire community. Not just admins.

Yup. It's 6:30pm and it's still 28℃.

Wait until December and it's still over 30℃ at 8pm.

...this is why I spent fuckloads of money fixing my pool.

There’s been a lot of discussion about a rule we recently instituted regarding security testing on the infosec.exchange instance. I understand the value or pen testing as much or more than most people, and I’m fully cognizant that pen tests are happening all the time and I’m not getting the report. I get it. But there are now 28,000 people using this service to communicate. I know there are vulnerabilities waiting to be discovered. Finding blog post fodder by fuzzing instances that are already running hot due to explosive growth is not super helpful. But at the same time, I WANT that testing to happen.

As a result, I am going to set up two instances tomorrow that only federate with each other. This is where I’d prefer legitimate security testing be performed. I’ll also be using it as the QA environment to test new updates and settings prior to deploying to the production instance. I’ll moderate signups because I don’t want it accidentally becoming fediverse 2.0 in the ongoing rush for the doors at twitter, but will accept anyone who wants to join, with clear indications that it’s a sandbox and should not be considered safe.

Thanks for patience as we continue to find out way.

It's super frustrating to work with computers for a living, because it means I know:

1) Exactly how bad they are
2) Exactly how good they can be under perfect circumstances
3) Why we have 1 instead of 2.

Given all the drama that's been happening on the bird site, this is starting to feel more relevant than ever.

I'm getting faster! With this new project I really got into a nice rhythm. As a result after two hours of work (30 mins of that to tie the warp back on) I went from a loose warp to about 7 inches of fabric. #weaving

It's a little known fact that early floppy disks did not contain magnetic media, but instead used a thin, circular punch card.

By the way, I'm now actively blocking anyone coming here to argue about the merits of donating to the NON-PROFIT that builds Mastodon.

It's absolute dirtbag behaviour when Mastodon struggles so much under a #TwitterMigration of millions of users.

Now lets put things into perspective. Last month, Twitter was employing 6,500 people. Mastodon employs 1 person who's working 14 hour days -- and only compensates himself €36,000 a year.

How is one guy supposed to take build the app that replaces Twitter when Twitter pays hundreds of engineers well over $100,000 to do a fraction of the work?

Yeah, other people deserve donations too -- so donate! Be a hero to the person who's running your instance, as well as the person who builds whatever app your instance is running.

And lest you think that I don't bang the drums on donations for other devs, this is not the case.

Last week, I told everyone to donate to @dansup. A couple of days ago, I told everyone to donate to @Are0h who, by the way, is making another app that builds safety features for marginalized communities. And I'm banging the drum all the time on @thatonecalculator@stop.voring.me and his work with Calckey.

But right now, I'm urging people to help out with Mastodon!

So if you have it in your heart to donate to a very good cause -- the continued development and existence of Mastodon -- contribute to Mastodon's Patreon. https://www.patreon.com/mastodon

My handwoven tote bag is done! I wasn't sure whether my plan for the tweed background and purple krokbragd pattern stripe would work but I'm really happy how it turned out.

This time I used raw leather strips for the handles which meant an extra hour punching holes in leather. Like my previous tote this is lined and has interfacing so it can stand up on its own. #weaving
