Hey! If you're new and reading this, remember that you don't need to bring your old behaviors from birdsite and fb to here.
We enjoy genuine conversation, because we can fit in all the words, finish our train of thoughts.
Get to know your community, and how they behave. See if you find something new and novel.
i need to build up a dossier of credible articles that clearly show why it is important to leave platforms like birdsite, fb, ig, etc.
does anyone know of a possible collection of such articles (or links to) that I could use as part of presentation that would clearly show people why joining Mastodon and boycotting the corporate-based social networks is necessary?
it looks i'm on a local advocacy campaign for a local
instance again.
#introductions. Hello bsd.network! I have been using #OpenBSD on my personal servers since version 5.5 after running Linux for a long time.
I enjoy using #BSD's because they are well crafted, documented, and are licensed under terms I actually understand.
I'm a lecturer in computer science at a university of applied science where I teach a broad range of topics from programming to networking to artificial intelligence.
Fakebook and Twatter and the like try to make you connect with people you already know. You don't meet "new" people through these services. You'd never have a Fakebook meet up; that wouldn't make sense.
Mastodon reminds me of back before this "real name' social media stuff. We made friends on the internet based on shared interests, and interesting personalities, and a weird sense of community. And you meet NEW people.
This is exactly what we need to break out of the echo chamber.
