So what kind of server resources do I need if I decide to host my own #mastodon instance? It would probably be just for me, user-wise.

@djmoch This is all a bit stream-of-consciousness, but I'll leave it anyway.
Running MacPorts when I was first getting into development taught me some bad habits. Everything had to be done with sudo, and couldn't be installed locally to a user's home directory. Then I started using Python, and had no idea pip supported installed *without* sudo. Then I discovered 'pip install --user,' and there was much rejoicing.
I can never remember how the date command works, which means that whenever I’m writing a script that uses it the phrase “man date” ends up in my history.

Had to do set some bits on a PCI bus, but I finally got my MacBook Pro launching X Windows on #Arch Linux.
Trying to install #Arch on my 2010 MacBook Pro, and I guess I’m going to have to give up on sticking with the open source Nouveau graphics driver. Can’t start an X session with it ... just hangs.
On to my next attempt: Nvidia drivers and Bumblebee.
I get that open floor plans in offices aren’t for everyone—and are actually bad for some—but I’ve worked surrounded by drab, gray fabric for the majority of my career and the grass on your side of the fence sure does look greener than mine!
Exciting night planned. I’m going to go see Iron & Wine with the lady. I’ve been looking forward to this since May!

TBH, I’m already pretty settled on Arch since it’s just my personal laptop and not a server. I’m just trying to figure out if I dislike Linus enough to avoid Linux. Probably not ...
