This account is officially kaput. I can't access or reset it for some reason except for my tablet that's already logged in. So I'm on cygnetsilks@mastodon.art for my art stuff, and cameron@linuxrocks.online for nerding, and that's enough accounts for me.
The latest tree, this one with lanterns in the branches, painted on silk. I was trying to get an ethereal, flowy feeling. I think I'll work more with lanterns, they seem fun.
Epilogue: After I painted this it got destroyed in the dye-set steaming process. Bummer. At least I got a photo first.
I'm going to do a switcheroo and use this Mastodon account for my artistic pursuits. Feel free to unfollow if you aren't in the mood for flowy silk paintings of trees and moths and stuff. Linux nerding will continue at @cameron . https://mastodon.cloud/media/GNNFhcvoYwPkuU1B7Z8
The linuxrocks.online Mastodon server is saying "invalid security certificate" and won't connect. What's that all about? Anyone else having that issue? This bopping back and forth between my two accounts is a little silly.
@cameron
Moderately sorry for my usage of the term dudez.
Hey dudez, this Mastodon.cloud instance seems a bit unstable. Also I wanted to change my username so it wasn't my art business name, since I want to talk nerding not silk painting. So I'm shifting my main profile over to @cameron
Cheers.
"One click install" is a bit of a misnomer though. You click once, and then four more times and a password....
I'm having a fun time playing with OpenSuse. More pesky problems to sort out, but it runs real nice now that I got wifi working... Seems good to get out of my Ubuntu Mate / Solus comfort zone.
don't let apple scan your face geniuses
Curious to know if there is creative writing software for Linux that's more like Scrivener, not just a single document editor? I always wind up with too many files and am not great at organizing them. #opensource #writing
Feeling rebellious, so I deleted my Reddit account. I liked it better when it was open source, and I wasn't crucial to me. I'd like to lose Facebook too, but need it for work. Jeesh, navigating these modern conveniences is complicated!
This is exciting! A solid Linux phone like this is my dream, obviously! I don't like my iphone and don't want an android either, because their privacy record for both Google and Apple is terrible and I like to be the boss of my own devices. I could rant about this for hours.

(Found out about this from @BryanLunduke 's interview with the founder. Good stuff.)
I'm sick of nazis.
Is there a usb hub that will work for longer than three weeks? I always want a mouse, a keyboard and a usb drive plugged into my laptop with two usb ports. The hubs I've tried crap out really quickly. 'Tis most lame.
My non-nerd friend is interested in getting a new laptop and dual booting Linux, because she liked the looks of the Ubuntu Mate I was running. I'm so proud.
@BryanLunduke Terminal how to videos would be real cool! Speaking as a baby nerd who wants to grow in my nerdliness.
It is pretty heartwarming to see so much talk about net neutrality in the media today. There was even a banner about it up in my Etsy shop control panel this morning.
I put the widget on my little silk painting web site, just to be a part of the party. #netneutrality
Researching web hosting to see if I can get something better is not entirely my favorite thing.
Today's moral dilemma: In revamping my web site, and putting up my own shopping cart, is there a manageable open source option, and can I make the dang thing faster (my experience with wordpress and woocommerce is pretty slow)? Maybe better hosting? Or do I just be a freaking hipster and use squarespace so I don't have to spend 100 hours setting it all up?
All to sell scarves to fancy ladies, not a tech crowd. I'm pondering... Any thoughts, Mastodonians?
