@TheAdmin Could you please delete my account from this instance only? I've moved to my own instance ❤️ Many thanks

Hi everyone following me on the awesome mastodon.cloud instance. Just a heads-up that I've had time to think about how I want to run my social presence and I've decided to run my own instance, specifically for engineering discussion. As such I'll be keeping a singular presence in the Mastodoniverse and will be closing out this account shortly. You can find me @chidgey on Mastodon in future. Thank you :)

Wonder what it is about the fediverse that you can see more seriously technical female devs here than in most other places.

Considering setting up a Mastodon instance for Control Systems Engineers only. Concept is that any local timeline traffic would always be specific to CSE with a rule that only this is permitted. For that to be usable though, I'd really need a client that supports multiple accounts so I can select which instance to post to. Currently it's early days but in the long-term I'm sure that'll get added to most clients.

I like the idea of having a domain user account that's portable between instances. For example, chidgey@chidgey.net could be connected to any Mastodon instance (but only ever one at a time). Realise that this would be problematic to implement though.

More seriously targetted harassment is one of the few things I do get the banhammer out for.

Criticising is easy. Delivering is hard work. Designing the best solution...is extremely difficult.

You can criticize things you love.

You should.

Tip for newcomers (4):

You can search for individual posts with a URL in order to bring them into your stream so that you can boost and favorite them.

Why is this necessary? Let's say that you're looking at someone's profile page and see something interesting. You just click on the time stamp to bring up that unique URL, copy it and past it into search. Works like a charm (for me at least)

Of course someday the Model 3 will come out but it's predicted Price point will be about $75k AUD which is also too expensive. There are no new Nissan Leafs being sold in Australia right now. No Bolt, No Zoe, No Prius Plugin...it's maddening 😡

Let's be clear: I would love a Tesla Model S or X, however I just can't afford them in my country. Model S starts at $122k AUD, and X starts at $166k AUD. OTOH I can pick up a Nissan Leaf second hand for $24k and it would be a great car.

after three days on mastodon. i would like to learn more about the languages france, japanese and spain.

Sometimes I ponder the expression "what is this world coming to?" and as far as I can tell it is nothing new. If it isn't new then it's reflective that tragedies, tyranny and injustices have been common place for as long as we've had civilisations, and perhaps even before. There's nothing new under the sun they also say. So if we've collectively pulled ourselves out of messes worse than this before, why not again?

Had a great time time picking up Zelda Majora's Mask from years ago. I finally updated my old Wii to use the WiiShop channel, and installed Ocarina or Time and Majora's Mask. Also picked up a Wii Classic Controller refurbished from EB Games for $20 today. I've finished Ocarina a dozen times and it remains my favourite game of all time. Never finished Majora's Mask. Barely got out of ClockTown... Much to do...

I could really use some help with macOS UI work for this Mastodon client I'm working on. I'm struggling ridiculously with the core concept of NSTableView cell resizing.

Please boost.

everyone knows the real meme of mastodon is being nice, and good

Anyone know of any Engineering focused Mastodon instances?

I wrote this years ago about App.Net: Still holds true: techdistortion.com/articles/su
"...when I need to contact person X, or when I want to know what person Y is doing, I will check platform Z...Without a significant number of the people you are interested in... actively using a platform, that social media platform will not succeed. If there are 200 people I want to follow on Twitter, and only 10 on App.net - the choice is Twitter without much thought..."
