@cmpriest I'm not done yet, but Flight Risk: A Novel is making me even happier than Grave Reservations did. Thanks, Cherie.

Wait a second...

There's no algo feed here, right? So there's no algo penalty for posting low engagement content? You don't lose visibility if you want to rant about how burritos are inferior to other tortilla-encased foods, or if you share a photo of a flower you like.

My god. It's like a dream. We're living the social media dream, Mastoblasters!

it’s really easy to find examples of times commercial enterprises have sucked all the air out of a room to suffocate mutual aid organizations and get them out of an area that the corps want to farm.

this space we’ve carved out for the fediverse has remained delightfully lacking in that, so let’s nip it in the bud by supersaturating our space with non-commercial orgs focused on direct action to improve people’s lives. give all that highly-oxygenated attention to the good side for once!

I'm going to say this again - my white friends who aren't racists do not mind me talking about racism. If you find yourself disturbed by or uncomfortable with topics on racism, you may want to tell yourself some hard truths. And then, work on your findings. You may be racist.

Security tip:

Obscurity is not security.

Just because less people are on Mastodon, does not mean you should be getting loosey goosey with sharing personal or incriminating info, if you're trying to stay anonymous & safe.

This is still a public platform.

The servers could still get hacked or taken by law enforcement.

Your ISP/cell provider could still be subpoenaed.

@obfuscurity I see you, Jason Dixon. Nice to know you're here. From your profile, what is this "spare time" of which you speak?

You might have seen somebody using the proverb Vox Populi, Vox Dei. What was missing was the context in which it was used:

Nec audiendi qui solent dicere, Vox populi, vox Dei, quum tumultuositas vulgi semper insaniae proxima sit.

In case you do not speak Latin, it means in English:

And those people should not be listened to who keep saying the voice of the people is the voice of God since the riotousness of the crowd is always very close to madness.

Think the main difference between the two platforms is on Twitter when you make a joke you get one haha and two death threats, whereas on here you get one haha and someone earnestly explaining the 6th century origins of the specific road that particular chicken crossed. Yet to decide which is more distressing.

Today, I cleaned the roaster. Simple green for the inside of the roaster, paper towel protecting the heating elements. (Hand wash and compressed air dry for the roasting basket and chaff collector, not shown)

Roasted the first pound of this El Salvadoran from Sweet Maria's yesterday.

Friday I took the afternoon off work, so I could work on some home maintenance stuff, mostly on the home generator. Small windows of opportunity for this type of work, coming into this season. Checked fluids, battery, reset the controller, all working well now.

Good morning, y'all. I'm mostly working this morning, but I took a short break to let Nils and Bianca dance a little happiness into my heart: youtube.com/watch?v=AOkP9ncBBz

@pat Yay, found you over here as I wind down on the other place...
