To be honest, I'm pretty fucking tired of every cartoon villain being drawn as fat. There's enough #fatphobia in the world without Lefty artists contributing to it.

@atomjack

And inevitably when political cartoonists depict poverty/capitalism, it's a fat dude in a suit stepping on/bullying a skinny little person. But IRL, the poor are often fat and the rich often deify physical "fitness," because they're the ones who can best afford to pursue it. It's a status symbol. #fatphobia

I love cartoons. I used to draw them. But maybe it's time for political cartoonists to stop living with outdated iconography from two centuries ago if they want their overall philosophy to be forward-thinking. The world's changed a lot since Thomas Nast.

@amylsacks @atomjack Fatness was a symbol of wealth in older times where it meant you could afford to eat lots of food. That's where the image of the rich and round guys come from.

@MeimuHakurei @atomjack

Yeah, I know. Like I said: it's outmoded and ought to be discarded if it's contemporary life which political cartoonists are trying to portray.
