"Thirteen years on social media is enough"

Social media has given me countless hours of enjoyment, broadened my horizons, helped me make many new friends. For all this I am grateful. Yet, after thirteen years of very active (excessive, according to family and friends) participation, I am ready to scale back. I am ready to reenter the analog world, eager to rediscover its beauty.

There'll be less tweeting and tooting from me in the next 10 days.

@geobabbler Kindness propagates. I was lost as a kid and a friend's family took me in and treated me as one of their own. Today we let people who need a place to reset and breathe stay in our garage apartment for free. We've graduated engineers, ministers and healthcare workers. People go back to school to finish degrees. It's a small thing but it gives the stability they need to move forward.

I learned that mastodon has RSS/Atom feeds. I hope they do make a comeback. Having an RSS feed means control of your content remains with you.

don't take yourself too seriously. You'll thank me later.

is it corny to like Lana Del Rey? Asking for a friend.

What I need is an app that registers my social media contacts to their email addresses. Then, when I get a social media PM from a contact, it sends it as an email to me from them. Then I can respond via email like a civilized person.

@DonMeltz @spara KML is always wrong. We can all agree on that.

so this happened on my morning drive to work. That aren't all mine but I can claim at least half

friend: hey, what time is it? os geoperson: let me show you how to make your own watch. friend: no, just tell me what time it is. osgp: it's easy! It's fun! it's exciting! first, you must determine the proper escapement for your needs... friend runs away.

like that was a serious question b/c there's this particular vibe to Old Guard masto users who've stuck to .social/ico/awoo accounts they made in December

that like "things have to go back to the way they were"

and it's like

i can't help but feel like they're lamenting the changing social character of the fediverse while refusing to explore the wider fediverse
