Hvis du IKKE benytter Do:Topia instance, så re-toot dette toot om den nye danske instance. Jo flere vi bliver på Do:Topia, jo nærmere kommer vi den kritiske masse for fortsat eksistens. #dotopia #mastodon mastodon.dotopia.dk/ mastodon.dotopia.dk/media/tNlb

JS is 22 years old today.

I joined Netscape on 4 April 1995, lured by jg&mtoy to "do scheme in the browser". Upon joining I found (1) headcount wars in pre-IPO NSCP left the client group unable to hire me as planned, so I joined the server team; (2) Sun was doing the Java deal with Netscape. Sun viewed Netscape as the vector for its Java virus, didn't care about integration with HTML -- but Bill Joy "got it" and along with Marc Anddressen supported me doing "Mocha". After a month on server side

I adore this guild I ran into on WoW.  They're guarding against the city invaders, and theyre all standing there in the WoD Stormwind (guard) armour.

It is 2074. Copyright is no longer extended since rich people no longer die. All librarians are unseen outlaws building archives underground. This is their story.

With news of Unroll.me selling user inbox info to Uber, lots of people are repeating "if you're not paying for it, you're the product."

I've said before, and will continue to say, that that is the wrong formulation. Sometimes you pay for it and you're still the product – look at US ISPs. Sometimes you don't pay for it and you're not the product – free software.

The real question is whether a software or service empowers users, which can't be boiled down to whether you paid.

We never asked the Things if they wanted to be connected to each other. We never appreciated the blessed ignorance of not knowing their agony in serving us, day in and day out.

Now is your last chance to tell the W3C to save the world from legally protected insecure software on all computers forever!

This is a great threat to the possibility of societal change on a whole! Because that change is organized on the web.

Use this simple tool to tell the W3C to say no to DRM. Now! action.openrightsgroup.org/say

I want to start my #buildingtheroads promotion of instances effort with one of the older instances in the network I am aware of that takes donations to support its efforts, quitter.no

It describes itself as follows:
"This is the place for you who are tired of private companies controlling your conversations and contacts and selling them for profit. On Quitter.no you are not locked up in a single commercial service; [...]

Quitter.no is not a service, because we're not selling commodities. Instead we call it an online commons. The site is run by the small Norwegian non-profit organisation kollektivet0x242.no which is solely funded by donations. All work is voluntary. Joining Quitter.no is completely free, but those who want to help out financially can donate to the organisation."

You can read more and donate here:

As always, boost if you want to help the effort!
