"Chinese Virus." WTF. That is overt, unadulterated racism torn bare right there.

It may sound silly, but in this economic crunch, go get some Chinese takeout food from your local family-run restaurant. Show the Chinese-American community that we're better than this.

The Republican mantra:
"I got mine, now fuck you."

“Respirators, ventilators, all of the equipment — try getting it yourselves,” Mr. Trump told the governors during the conference call. via

Most people: this sucks, I can't go out and socialize with people

Me, mostly an introvert:

Hey . It’s our time to lead. We were the neglected kids who understand being alone. Forgot how to do it? Recall: get off bus, walk home, head into an empty house, make a snack & get your homework done? (And no one knew you were home until dinner time.)

Hearing from the experts is important, especially when the government can't seem to figure out reality. took notes at a meeting four days ago about the status and response to , worth a read especially by any geeky heads:

Whispers from official sources that SARS-CoV-2 (aka the virus) may have seasonal behavior, that is, it may recede during summer.

That's great... BUT:

If so, we still have to work on vaccine development and treatments. The 1918 Spanish flu came back in force in autumn.

Trump's horror-movie-esque nightmare.

He's relaxing in the Oval, watching Fox News. A voter creeps up behind him, presses a finger to the back of his head, and says:

"Don't turn around, Mr. President. I have a brain and I'm not afraid to use it."

Not just a little sick. He's *really* sick. His tripping over long sentences by running out of breath sounds like I did with flu a couple months ago.

I make a point of not really listening to the pumpkin's speeches. But the one last night got included in a podcast I listen to, so...

Uh, he's sick from something. The number of times he had unexpected exhales in the middle of vowels was too many to be coincidence.

With so many companies trying out work-from-home, I suspect we are going to see an uptick in remote work even after (hopefully) calms down, justified by reducing the cost of running offices.

Which means that we really need to work on improving universal Internet access.

No, that's quarrelsome. Quarantine is the character Sean Connery played in "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen".

No, those are quarrymen. Quarantine is the state of complaining a lot.

You've heard this retold many ways, often misattributed to Mahatma Gandhi. But it's true:

"First they ignore you. Then they ridicule you. And then they attack you and want to burn you. And then they build monuments to you."

I believe in you and your fight. I know you're going to win because I see the same damned determination in your eyes and words that I had on that patch of grass in April 2000.

We will all win our goals if we stick together. It may not be Right Now but it WILL happen. 17/

Yeah, this thread is about the long game, and I know, that SUCKS.

Mitch McConnell has been playing the long game to screw us all over almost as long as I've been alive. We have to play the long game for the goal of positive progress too. Anything short of that will lose. 16/

"The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice."
– Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., paraphrasing Theodore Parker

Dr. King was right, but the hidden meaning here is this: YOU are the force making that arc bend. YOU are the people making these changes happen. 15/

I wish I could wave a magic wand and bring about sweeping change in a short time. I can't.

Unfortunately, you're going to be disappointed. You're going to feel betrayed. And you're still going to live in crappy times for a while.

Your challenges and goals today are different, but still rooted in social justice for everyone. That's a fight worth having.

Sanders changed the conversation once in 2016, he's done it again now, and your movement is ALREADY making change happen. 13/

So that fight? It's still going on, but we're making headway. It has taken resilience and determination to keep going, and honestly, it sucks. That fight has pretty much defined my life.

I'm still fighting it today; I'm not going to give up. And neither should you. 12/
