It seems that .cloud is very unstable now
We're having a little trouble with our current instance so we're moving! Follow us over on Mastodon.social: https://mastodon.social/@elementary
The word "Verbing" is so beautifully self-referential.
Glad to have .cloud back and working well 😄
Now further strangeness, like my own toots do not show in my home line, but are in my profile. That is when my profile actually appears on request and doesn't show a 500 error as it does just now.
No idea what anyone else is seeing or missing.
Some odd stuff happening on my Mastodon, at least in web client. Replies that don't appear in Notifications, no Home toots for half a day or more at times, images which don't open. Been a few hiccups in .cloud lately.
I'm patiently waiting for it to settle. Really don't want to move instances, but I will need to make an escape route in case of emergency.
remember the good old days when tech companies were called things like Microsoft or Compaq
now they're all nonsense or moderately rare nouns like Sauce or Steam or Knees or Leaf or Toggle
dammit
Cheery end to the day - The Silent Child. Amazing film. Horrendous UK stats on the need for better support for sign language and support for the hard of hearing and deaf. Wow who would have thought it was the 21st Century.
Unable to return failed laptop battery because no consumer level carriers will transport Li-Ion batteries where not fitted to a device. Some of them claim legal reasons, although that is mostly air cargo regs when looked up.
Used or malfunctioning ones are even harder to send legally.
Hmmm.
Full refund has been offered on return of failed laptop battery. Good outcome :)
Flaptop battery total failure. Using it the other day, then black screen instant shutdown happened. Won't even start now without adaptor on.
Battery pinouts are hard to find, and presence indicators make it impossible to just put a meter on it and read voltage.
Just have to see if supplier [DTK] will help, as the battery is less than a year old.
It's a reminder of the difference between Reliability and Life of equipment.
Recently acquired my late mum-in-law's sewing machine. I had little idea how they work, and I do not sew.
I'm getting sucked in ...
Turns out to be a desirable top-of-range Singer, the 201k. Have already overhauled the electrics to make it safe(r) and tidy. I've sewed my first seam. Downloaded the service manual. Appreciated the engineering and thought in the design.
Photos show that it can sew leather if the right needle is used.
I had enough interests .. sigh

it should blow your mind how profligately wasteful programs have become, that 20mb is considered small now. that's, like, 14 floppies.
we used to be able to cram an entire operating system into less space than that
The #Vero board must be full of holes.
Sorry, it's my generation speaking.
I'll get my coat ....
