Okay, mini-vacation is over. But before I spill the beans on all things, we gotta round out the year with a This Year in Solus of all the accomplishments and development efforts of 2018. So I better get to writing!

So just a warning but once I'm back from this mini-vacation things are gonna be going crazy in land for the next few weeks.

Don't pay attention to our blog. Nope, don't do it. Also don't pay attention to the download page, nothing is gonna happen in Jan. there. Nope.

Global Maintainers have been critical to our ability to bring you consistent and reliable package updates, resolving issues for our users, and helping expand our repository with well maintained, well integrated software!

I'd like everyone to give a warm welcome to our newest Global Maintainer, Friedrich (a.k.a Girtablulu in IRC). He's been responsible for supporting wide variety of packages and stacks like Brother printer drivers, Rust+cargo, and more!

For translations, I've made a lot of headways on the Weblate deployment. I still need to write some daemons and deploy Celery to the server for background task processing (really needed for Budgie Desktop because of the sheer amount of translations will cause a timeout otherwise). Hopefully should have a usable Weblate up soon(TM) so translators can start updating the Budgie Desktop translations.

Hey everyone, as I start doing the sync to stable today, just want to remind people that this release introduces a currently in-development version of Budgie. There has been a significant amount of fixes (as well as a rewrite of the devices sections of the sound widgets) since I originally landed it in unstable, so I'm much more confident in shipping the development builds to all of you.

Bryan and I have yet another Hackfest planned! Bryan will be working on device detection via Sysfs for linux-hardware-qualifier and I'll be working on the Help Center document indexer. Join at youtube.com/watch?v=ggBwAUjaZS on Saturday, Dec. 15th at 1500 UTC!

Please bear in mind:

1. This new functionality will be without some translations. I will be actively working to get Weblate deployed so we may start translating all the new strings.
2. You may encounter bugs. I only ask you file it on our GitHub so I can get them sorted. It's being put in the unstable repo for a reason folks.
3. It's marked as 10.5. Don't get too excited, it's not the final release.

Enjoy!

- Joshua

Solus unstable repo has now been updated to latest Budgie git, featuring the new IconTasklist Popovers and a whole lot more!

With new Budgie popover fanciness on the way, I want to take this opportunity to get the community involved in making the Desktop Actions support available to more applications that we all know and love! If you want to get involved in improving Desktop Actions support, check out this task (which has ways that you can get involved even if you aren't a programmer!): dev.getsol.us/T7289

Contemplating moving Solus's budgie-desktop package to "latest master" post-sync, maybe conveniently around the same time I land the new popover fanciness. 🤔

New Budgie 10.5 IconTasklist Popover fanciness is nearing completion! Just some more refinements and local testing to go. Check out the quick video I made on it! - Joshua
