The concept of the 'Federation feed' just clicked with me. Interesting idea, to combat the 'algorithm bubble' on other platforms, but doesn't this mean that if my instance blocks a type of usage, that the subculture will have it's own instance being terrible?
Like, DarkMastadon doesn't connect to GoodMastadon, but NeutralMastadon connects to both?
@MPL But I didn't thought instances were basically point to point communications, based on Atom feeds. So that evades the proxy issue.

Whether this limits / contains pestilence, or only makes it all the more powerful, will be interesting to watch. danah boyd has been posting some exceptionally good stuff on Medium about 4chan, /b/, etc., which began as unsupervised memespaces, but arguably became the seeds for Russian propagandistic takeovers of Western media space.
