Just got back from the British Juggling Convention which was ace. Got many pages of notes, will be writing up my experience over the next few days.
Is there any way to view another instance's local timeline without setting up a new account? Seems like people would benefit from seeing what the local instance is like before signing up.

I think it is great that people are curious to ask about the federated nature of Mastodon, you should understand the software you are using.
You can simply think of the local timeline as 'lots of people' & the federated timeline as 'lots more people'. It's not going to spoil your enjoyment of using the service.
Mastodon feels like IRC/ICQ to me you don't necessarily know who is going to be in the room. So what if you don't know anyone here yet. That is a good thing. Burst your bubble!
