Today European Space Agency (#ESA)'s #Swarm constellation which measures Earth's magnetic field 🧭, celebrates 9 years since launch.
We used Swarm data to study #migratory #bird #navigation. We first linked Swarm data to #GPS #trajectories of migratory birds:
https://movementecologyjournal.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s40462-021-00268-4
Then we developed new models of #geomagnetic #navigation:
https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S157495412200139X
This is the first time anyone used data on real geomagnetic conditions to do this! And it could not have happened without Swarm.
check out more details on our #jwst #exoplanet papers in this #nasa press release 🖤
Does anyone know if raw images taken by #Artemis are available to download? (raw, not jpeg)

'...Look again at that dot. That's here. That's home. That's us. On it everyone you love, everyone you know, everyone you ever heard of, every human being who ever was, lived out their lives. The aggregate of our joy and suffering, thousands of confident religions, ideologies, and economic doctrines, every hunter and forager, every hero and coward, every creator and destroyer of civilization, every king and peasant, every young couple in love, every mother and father, hopeful child, inventor and explorer, every teacher of morals, every corrupt politician, every "superstar," every "supreme leader," every saint and sinner in the history of our species lived there--on a mote of dust suspended in a sunbeam...'
Artemis Orion post-flyby-burn update:
T: 12:00 ET, Nov 21
Speed: 6,050 km/h
Distance from moon: 12,947 km
Orion is now traveling at a speed 1.68x that of the moon (~3,600 km/s), racing ahead of it, for insertion into the Distant Retrograde Orbit (DRO) of 70,000 km altitude on Friday.
Orion has slowed down a bit due to the moon's gravity compared to its speed shortly after the burn of 8,000 km/s.

I'll try to get 8-9 more hours tonight.
The Orion capsule of the Artemis 1 mission has arrived in orbit round the Moon! I was 5 when the last lunar astronauts landed. Never thought it would take 50 years before we went back, but at least it's now happening. Another few years, and there will be humans back up there, including the first woman and the first person of colour. Progress!
